“WAVERTREE GRADS RUN 1-2 IN BELMONT MAIDEN RACE”

Sunday June 11: Wavertree Stables graduates ADMIDST WAVES (’21 f. Midshipman / Troublesome) and KODIAC WINTERGREEN (’21 f. Kodiac(GB) / Humble And Proud(IRE) scored the exacta in Belmont’s 7th race Sunday, a maiden special weight event for two-year-old fillies going five furlongs over a firm turf course.

The winner AMIDST WAVES was making her second start having run fourth on May 4th at Gulfstream Park. Going into the gate Sunday as the second longest shot in the field of eight, the chestnut broke fourth, sat just off the pace, swung out into the five-path through the stretch to draw away and score a 3 3/4 -length victory over fellow Wavertree grad and first-time starter KODIAC WINTERGREEN(IRE).

The winner was a $100,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase. Owned by DEW SWEEPERS racing partnership and trained by GEORGE WEAVER, AMIDST WAVES was ridden to victory by ERIC CANCEL. She has banked $51,500.

Runner-up KODIAC WINTERGREEN(IRE) races for Houston Astro’s third-baseman Alex Bregman’s BREGMAN FAMILY RACING, LLC. The daughter of Kodiac(GB) was purchased on behalf of her owners by agent MIKE AKERS at last year’s GOFFS ORBY Yearling Sale for $153,486. The promising juvenile is a half sister to the globe-trotting Grade 1-winner GLORIOUS EMPIRE(IRE) and to stakes-winner LOVE REIGNS. She is trained by GEORGE R. “RUSTY” ARNOLD II.

We wish both fillies and their connections much continued success!
